The Dance of Consciousness

In the yoga tradition, the practice offers us an opportunity to experience the energy of life that is flowing through us- that is also the energy of life flowing through all things. The tradition sometimes speaks of this as Absolute Consciousness, as Shiva. In the yogic teachings, Shiva dances. Consciousness dances through us, as us.

The yoga teachings share that the dance of Shiva includes both revelation and concealment. The world at large seems to be filled with wisdom and compassion concealed, seemingly absent. And yet, the dance also includes revelation: a remembering and enlivening of our goodness and wholeness and aliveness- a deep knowing of the amazing power of humanity that is bursting forth everywhere.

This dance happens for us regularly- we forget ourselves, we forget our "enoughness" and our joy and our hope.  And then at times it’s as clear as the hand in front of our face. This shift from concealment to remembrance can happen in the span of a yoga class!

Of all the many things we can do to serve humanity and the world, among them, may we nourish our practice of kindness and generosity. May our yoga help us feel and access that place of the heart. Let us choose to bring even small amounts of uplifted care, rather large amounts of the opposite.

Let us become lights unto ourselves and others in these wild times.
