Sankalpa: Intention of the Heart

May this coming year be a time to honor your rhythms, your inner wisdom, and your joy. While many find inspiration in resolutions, it's also a rich time to cultivate an intention to attune to during the year. In the yoga tradition, the word for intention is sankalpa.

Today is the first full moon of the new year. It's an auspicious time to nourish an intention to remember and invoke the qualities of our heart. This sankalpa isn't something outside of our our self that we're trying to get. Rather, it's a quality inherently part of being human. An intention is an alignment and attunement with something already within us that we choose to dedicate ourselves to. This can be a practice of remembering that which has meaning for us, so as to help it grow in our ability to access it.

For me, in my personal life, my intention is to let the patience of my heart be even more known to me. In my experience of the world, my intention is let the courage of my heart come forward supportively.

We welcome you into spaces of rest, renewal, inquiry, fortification, and exploration in our classes this year. We look forward to sharing this New Year with you!
