Pattern, Awareness, Choice
These last few days in August have been such delicious summer days. And yet, there's also been a coolness in the air that hints to us about the upcoming autumn. A time of transition, this is a threshold- a gateway.
Gateways provide us the opportunity to enquire: what are we moving from and how do we envision the next steps? Can we bring forward whatever curiosity or courage we envision for ourselves as we step into this time of change? What are we ready to shed? What can be left behind and built upon as we take steps to embody the clarity and love we wish in the world?
Yoga is a practice of presence. Yoga class is a place we can notice patterns that may support us, as well as patterns that can be limiting. Our awareness gets room to expand in a yoga class. We can notice the ability to see patterns and then make choices about how we want to respond. For example, as we wobble in a balance pose, we may notice mental patterns of judgment. But we are also cued to stay with the breath. The cue allows us to notice the wobble and the judging mind, but all the while holding to a steadiness of breath awareness that is grounding us. In these moments, there sometimes is the space to choose a moment of curiosity about our reactivity and to offer some kindness in the moment.
Yoga can be a place to practice observation, inquiry, and embodying a compassionate clarity that can be an embodiment of what we wish the world had more of. The world could use kindness, awareness, curiosity. Come and practice. And build the world - even within your mind- that supports and uplifts you and others.
